head lice treatment – most common home remedies

Why do you prefer home remedies when it comes to head lice treatment?

If you ask me, I would say that they are cost-effective and non-toxic.

Some of the recommended* home remedies for head lice treatment are:

  • Cooking Oil
  • Mayonnaise
  • Petroleum Jelly or Vaseline
  • Vinegar

(* recommended by users, no scientific evidence)

After looking at these home remedies for head lice treatment, you might say:

  • “Hey! I don’t want to smell like cooking oil.”
  • “I don’t want to apply mayonnaise, because I don’t want to attract flies and insects.”
  • “What? Petroleum Jelly in my hair! How in the world will I be able to wash it out?”
  • Vinegar in Hair? No, thank you! I don’t want to smell like…”

But…People use them and prefer them all the time.

Plus…You don’t have to apply them to your hair and go out immediately to hang out or attend a party.

See, it’s a treatment… a cheap and non-toxic treatment… which requires you to stay at home if you don’t want others to pass smart comments.

Interesting Fact

The reason why people recommend them is that they make it difficult for head lice to breathe.

Since they can’t breathe, they die within a few hours.

This is why ‘natural treatment’ is considered to be the best head lice treatment… by some folks.

However, it’s been also noticed that head lice can easily survive without breathing literally for hours.

So, when you use any ‘natural treatment’, make sure you keep it on for 8 hours at least.

So…How Do I Get Started?

Well, if you intend to use home remedies like mayonnaise or Vaseline, then apply them to your hair and then put on a shower cap.

Keep it on for at least 8 hours.

Thus, it’s best to use this technique at night before you go to sleep. When you get up in the morning, wash your hair with regular shampoo.

Scientific Evidence

Remember, there is no scientific evidence that these home remedies actually work or not.

They are not tested and there are no proven step-by-step instructions that we can follow.

The only way to find out is… TRY!

If you are conscious about your hair, then you might want to stay away from these natural treatments.

Even though we don’t know of any side effects yet, but, who knows, this practice might ruin your hair completely.

Wash, Wash…Wash Again

Also, remember that you will have to wash your hair several times to get rid of Vaseline or mayo.

You may have to shampoo your hair daily for about a week to get rid of Vaseline or mayo completely.

In such a situation, dishwashing liquid will help you get the Vaseline out of your hair.

If you don’t want to put any chemicals in your hair, then maybe this is the best alternate at your disposal.
